How SEAI grants work for external insulation on your home (SEAI Grants - Clone)

The Irish government offers grants for improving the energy efficiency of your home. Great! But where do you start if you would like to avail of this?

Grants are offered for a range of options on your home: external wall insulation, internal wall insulation, attic insulation and others. First you have to choose which one you would like to avail of.

The amounts available depend on what type of insulation you install, and the type of building. Please see below for the available grant amounts for each:

Energy Efficient Measures Grant Value
Attic / rafter insulation €300
Cavity wall insulation €300
Internal Insulation (Dry Lining Insulation)
Apartment (any) OR Mid-terrace house €1,200
Semi-detached OR end of terrace €1,800
Detached house €2,400
External Wall Insulation (The Wrap)
Apartment (any) OR Mid-terrace House €2,750
Semi-detached OR End of terrace €4,500
Detached house €6,000

Once you have decided to go ahead with the work you have to go about finding a SEAI registered contractor who is qualified for the job you wish to be completed. For instance, Morrin Building Services is registered for dry-dining insulation, external insulation and roof insulation.

Having chosen a contractor you can now proceed to apply for the grant. The quickest way to apply for the grant is online where SEAI say you should have a response within minutes. You can apply online here. When approved you have 30 days to accept the offer of the grant.

Next up the work has to be completed by your registered SEAI contractor, with payment made or a financing agreement in place, and finally you need to have the BER assessment made and your cert published.

"You will receive a form in the post called the Declaration of Works – one for each measure (e.g. one for external wall insulation, one for heating controls with gas boiler upgrade) which is filled in by you, your registered Contractor and your BER assessor when the works and BER are completed. For payment, please submit your completed Declaration of Works form and your Request For Payment form to:

Better Energy Homes Scheme
Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland
P.O. Box 119
Cahirciveen

You will generally find your money in your bank account within four weeks.
Note: Your contractor may be selected for a home inspection."
